10 Self-Care Practices to Boost Your Wellbeing

Adult life is a busy life, and while most of us are currently in a state where we’re managing more than one area in our lives, we tend to fall short on taking care of ourselves. And although our commitments and responsibilities are important, taking care of our wellbeing is equally the same. Because in order to lead a healthy balanced life, we need to feel that balance within ourselves first; cause after all, we can’t keep pouring from an empty cup. If you can relate to this, here are 10 ideas to get inspired from for more self-care in your life.

1. Get Quality Sleep

Having healthy sleeping patterns directly affects your performance and the quality of your day-to-day life. Make sure to start winding down with at least an hour before your bedtime to prepare your body and mind for sleep. You can do that by switching off your mobile, having a book to read, or a calming tea to drink, you can light up that candle for a while and have your night skin care routine; basically, anything that makes you more present, calm and in the moment. Remember, how you end your day and how you start it affects your overall mood and productivity. 

2. Rethink Social-Media

At some point, we’ve all experienced the fatigue we feel after endless scrolling on social media. It does no good to our emotions and our mental health, leaving us feeling empty. To minimize the possibility of this happening more frequently, you can either delete the apps for a while and get back when you feel more refreshed and grounded. However, if your works entails you to check social media, you can set a screen time limit and be mindful with your scrolling habits. 

3. Exercise 

Taking care of your body instantly affects your wellbeing. Start that yoga or pilates class that you’ve been postponing. Go on long walks whenever you can throughout the week, or hit the nearest gym and commit to at least one time every week. Just do anything that involves movement and watch how it’ll boost your mood.

4. Spiritual Care 

While taking of our psyches and bodies is extremely important, we cannot forget our souls. Try to stay connected to God, pray on time, read Quran, surround yourself with righteous suhba. That’s the one and only essence that fulfills your life.

5. Journaling

Journaling is a great way to stay connected to yourself and manage stress. So even if you don’t have the time, at least write for 5 minutes every other way, and let that be your constat self-check in. By time, this will become a great archive of your inner thoughts, your transformation and it will help you reflect on your relationship with yourself when read through them. 

6. Breathe… literally 

We take a lot of breaths everyday but we do not  b r e a t h e.  Countless studies have been made on the numerous ways breathing helps our bodies and nervous system. Let that breathwork be part of your everyday routine, take a few minutes to feel every inhale and exhale, and especially  do it when you feel overwhelmed to regain your balance. 

7. Set Boundaries 

Saying “no” doesn’t come easily to everyone, but practicing setting boundaries is extremely important. The boundaries you set provide you with a peaceful life and solid lines that no one can cross. Say no to things that don’t align with your values, your time and you current energy level. By doing this, you’ll have a healthier life balance.

8. Engage in Activities That Bring You Joy

Make time for activities that bring you joy and recharge your spirit. It could be pursuing a hobby, engaging in creative endeavors, playing a musical instrument, gardening, or exploring nature. Doing things you love will boost your happiness and overall well-being.

9. Cultivate Meaningful Relationships

Nurturing relationships with loved ones is vital for your well-being. Spend quality time with family and friends, engage in meaningful conversations that fulfill your heart and soul. Surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire you, and let go of toxic relationships that drain your energy.

10.  Forgive Yourself 

Part of being human is making mistakes, so be easy on yourself. Talk to it with kindness and compassion, the same way you speak to someone you love.
